Day 23 - On the Road Again (Farewell Byron)

Our last day in Byron Bay started with another morning at the beach.  This time Wategos Beach,  just around the head from the Pass.  Beautiful clear water and some very nice waves.  We all got out on they boards including Dan,  who hasn’t been surfing  for some time.

Some chill time back at the apartment for the family while Quid and I packed Vanie for the trip home.  Literally across the road from our apartment was the monthly market so we couldn’t resist a stroll over for lunch and a browse through all the stalls.  There was everything from tie dyed T-shirts, to shiatsu massage, digeridoo buskers and tarot readings.  The girls brought anklets and I got a Greenpeace sticker for Vanie (the collection is growing !!!).

Later that evening we headed out for a family farewell dinner at an incredible Mediterranean restaurant in town called the Mez.  Lots of Cypriot inspired dishes served meze style. After the dinner we took a short stroll to Apex park near the main beach where it all happens after dark.  Street performers, hippies and backpackers just hanging and chillin!!!  Kids couldn’t resist a moonlight dip to finish off the day.

Next morning was pancakes for Brecky and then we said our goodbyes before heading off in the general direction of Melbourne. But first we had to head in the opposite direction so Quid could take a screen shot from Google Maps arriving in Byron Bay, because he forgot to do it when we actually arrived. Anyway mission accomplished and it was only A few minutes out of our way.

We had a couple of possible destinations in mind, including Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and Nambucca Heads.  As it turns out we were enjoying our time on the road again so we blew past all those places traveling 495 kms to Forster, arriving at 5.30.

Oh yeah,  we missed it in the way up but this time round caught a glimpse of the big banana as we passed through Coffs.  Nowhere near as impressive as I remembered. Maybe big fruit just isn’t as impressive to adults as it is to little kids !!!!

We plan to get home in about 6 days so we are back for Australia Day and to give Quid time to prepare for the new school year.

There is a screen shot of all the places we stopped on the way up and as you can see we are already a third of the way back after only a days driving. Unfortunately our trip is coming to an end.  Let’s see if we can squeeze in a few more adventures first !!! .
