Day 2 - The Van gets named and Quiddy nearly eats a carrot - 350 kms

Last night saw an awesome thunder storm with minimal rain.  It was remnant of those tropical lightning storms in Vietnam.    Slept with all the doors open and had lovely breeze to keep things cool.

We had weetbix for brecky, packed up and were on the road by 10.30 bound for Cape Conran. We booked a campsite over the phone yesterday which turned out to be the same place we camped at a couple of NYE’s ago.

We took a detour to visit the Buchan Caves, and yes they were pretty Buchan good.  This put us behind a few hours so we got into Marlo (Cape Conran) too late for a surf. We did however scope an awesome spot for a surf tomorrow morning.

We cooked some tasty burgers from that Hawaiian joint Big Kahuna burger..... actually ingredients were from Aldi in Bairnsdale where we stopped for lunch.

Now a few things I should mention. Firstly you may notice Quiddy looks very unhappy in all of the photos. No he has not been kidnapped and he’s not here under duress in fact he’s actually having a very good time he just hates having his photo taken and refuses to smile. He did eat that carrot under duress I must admit. Well he nearly ate the carrot sorry Dani/ mum.

Secondly it’s about that pink Hawaiian shirt you may notice from time to time in the photos. My brother Jeremy bought it for me for Christmas as a piss take and I have decided to wear it every day of the trip. Despite my brothers horrendous taste in shirts however, he did come up with an awesome name for the van. This is something Quiddy and I have been discussing since the start of the trip. From this point forward the van shall be known as a Vanie Mc van-face. Or VMVF for short. It’s really quite obvious. I don’t see how it could have been anything else.

So it’s New Year’s Eve and I wish you all a happy new year. A fairly quiet one for Quiddy and I who will enjoy A bottle of orange juice and a bottle of red wine whilst enjoying each others company.

We will probably head for Mallacoota after our surf tomorrow.

Until next time.

Ditch the carrot. It doesn’t help you see in the dark
