Day 10 - The boys surf Bondi and Vanie goes off-road again

So we left the Austin’s driveway early this morning and headed straight for Bondi Beach which was about 40 minutes drive at that time of the morning. Easy enough to find a park in the beach car park and then we hit the surf. Had a ball and spent a couple of hours there.

We then headed north across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and up towards Gosford where we stopped for the afternoon to check out the Australian reptile park. Had a great time saw a big Elvis the massive salt water crock and then went looking for another free campsite in a nearby national Park.

This time it wasn’t our fault. The app that we use to find campsites sent us down a 4WD  only fire trail (Pitch Fork Track), miles away from where the campsite we were aiming for was actually located. There were no signs advising us that this was not suitable for 2WDs and by the time we realized this for ourselves we had passed the point of no return. However this time the track being dry, vanie excelled himself and was able to traverse some very rough terrain and a couple of water crossings unassisted. He did stall after the deepest water crossing and we had to wait to let the water drain out before he would start again. Worst part was that Quiddy was so excited that we got across the roughest part he forgot to aim the camera to capture the moment and we only get his excited audio commentary.

Quiddy and I were very relieved to have gotten out of this very remote area of the national Park only to find the actual spot a few miles up the road off a very firm semi sealed road.  This campsite however was not without its problems. There was some rather disturbed man at the far end of the near empty campground with an old caravan but no towing vehicle.  He would regularly wander off into the bush and yell and scream at the top of his voice. I tried to engage him with a friendly gidday when we first arrived only to be met with a blank stare. This will make for a fun evening. Turns out there were no issues except for more random screaming into the bush. Perhaps he had Tourette’s. Personally I reckon he had a blue with his partner who took off with the car and left him stranded in the bush.
