Thanks Dan. What an amazing contribution and keepsake.
Steve Biddulph has a lot to answer for! Inspired by Steve’s book Raising Boys, here is a boy on the verge of manhood, a man who never really grew up, a Mitsubishi van that’s seen better days, two surfboards and a dream. They say the most amazing thing you can give your kids is your time. This Summer father and son will hit the road for what is most definitely not about the destination. It’s all about the journey.

Still Day 7 - The Grandfathers get involved
Before the trip, Dan and I bought Quiddy a keep-sake watch with an engraved message on the back to remind him of our journey. Dan wrapped the gift in a box with the suggestion I give it to him at about the halfway mark. As we are pretty much half way to Byron Bay and we were stuck in the van in the pizzerling rain, I decided now was a good a time as any to present Quiddy his watch. When he opened the box however there was another surprise accompanying the watch. My amazing wife Dani, unbeknowns to me had arranged for both of Quiddy’s grandfathers to contribute their thoughts by way of a hand written letter. Whilst I won’t post the actual letters as they are private between Christopher and his grandfathers, I will say they were educational, philosophical and humorous. Reading the letters was a wonderful moment that will certainly be one if the fondest memories I take away from this trip. We chatted for some time about the letters meaning and Quiddy also had some strong views that he was almost unable to articulate. But I could tell they had touched him deeply. Quid has promised to add a supplementary post about the letters once he has gathered his thoughts.

Beautiful.
Sounds gem
Wasn’t there a scene in pulp fiction about a watch....
